Common Moorhen Got A Fish

I saw this bird swimming in the pond and I think it is a common moorhen. And it seems it got a fish, probably a common minnow or a gudgeon (gobio gobio). It’s funny because I actually didn’t notice the fish in the beak when I shot the photo, I noticed it at home. I had to crop the image a lot because the bird was too far away. It was also shot at a time when I still did mostly take JPG photos. But I think it’s still a nice snapshot. You can find more bird photos on my … Continue reading Common Moorhen Got A Fish

White Duck

I saw this white duck having fun in a local pond. It made me wonder, because I don’t often see white ducks in the wild. I tried to research but all what I read says the same. White ducks are not very common in the wild, at least not in Germany. Most pages I have read do speak about escaped domestic ducks, hyprid ducks or escaped white pekins. Then I spotted a German blogger on WordPress who posted an image of a white duck as well in a list of hybrid drucks, with the same assumptions. So, who knows? All … Continue reading White Duck

Black-Headed Gull Landing In The Water

Above you can see a bird landing in the water and I think it is a Black-Headed Gull. Their appearance is tricky, because they look different depending on the age, if they are female or male, and depending on the season because they can be in winter plumage. In my photo collection of black-headed gulls, you can see how they always look different. Also with the Google image search you can see the difference appearances. If you like, you can find more bird photos on my blog. Continue reading Black-Headed Gull Landing In The Water

Parus major

Above is a photo that I shot today and I am pretty happy with it. I was able to crop the image heavily, but it still looked ok. The image was shot with my Tamron 70-300mm lens and I was kinda close but with the cropping during post-processing I could come up with the result above. In Germany we call the bird “Kohlmeise” but the English name is kinda funny because you guys call the bird “great tit” but the scientific name is “Parus major”. I am pretty proud because my bird photo collection grew a lot over time. I … Continue reading Parus major

European Robin

Today I was hiking because we had sun and it looked a bit like spring. I didn’t take a lot of photos over the winter, instead I uploaded some that I shot previously. Winter can be great and there are some interesting subjects during this time as well, but this winter I was not in the mood to go outside with the camera very often. But the weather was good today and with spontaneity I grabbed my camera and went outside. I shot some photos of birds, including the photo of the European Robin that you see in this post. … Continue reading European Robin

Male House Sparrow

Above is a photo of a house sparrow and I believe it is a male house sparrow. I shot the photo last year somewhere in Timmendorf near the beach. They were sitting on a glass fence but I also found them in the bushes near the beach. Generally, they are very common here and I see them often. If you like bird photos, you can find more on my blog and also different photos of sparrows. Continue reading Male House Sparrow
