How To Fix The Issue With The Steam Overlay Not Showing Up

Introduction

In this small guide you will find a possible solution to fix the issue that your Steam Overlay doesn’t show up while playing a game. I had this exact same issue while playing some of my favorite games, and I could press Shift + Tab as much as I wanted but the Overlay didn’t show up. I got it working again, and this is what I will write about in this guide.

The Fix For Steam Overlay Issues

Before I go into much detail, we basically want to run the “Steam.exe” and maybe even the “GameOverlayUI.exe” always with admin rights in Windows. If you don’t know how to do that, here is what you need to do. You look into the “\Program Files (x86)\Steam\” folder that should located on the partition where you installed Steam. Look for both files, especially the “Steam.exe”, right-click on the file and click on “Properties” and go to the “Compatibility” tab in the dialog box and check the “Run This Program As An Administrator” and click on “OK”. Next time you start Steam, it will always start with admin rights. By the way, you might see a pop up that says that Steam runs in compatibility mode and that this could cause issues. I never noticed issues, it rather fixed issues to run the program as admin so that you can hide the message. It is also worth to mention that it’s probably more important to run “Steam.exe” as admin, but I run “GameOverlayUI.exe” as admin too to be sure.

Last Words

I hope this solved your issue too and I hope you can now bring up the Steam Overlay again. Let me know in the comment section below if this solved your issue too and in what kind of games you noticed the issue. Let me know if it didn’t fix your issue but if you found an alternative solution, because any extra information’s might be helpful for other users as well! Apart from that, have fun and happy gaming!
