Bratwurst and Fried Potatoes

A couple of days ago I realized that I haven’t had Bratwurst for a long time. Arrived in the supermarket, I took a Thuringia Bratwurst package and went home. I wanted to eat it with fried potatoes because you know, I absolutely love fried potatoes. I added onions and pepper to the potatoes too. I also prepared gravy and done was the meal. And it was extremely delicious… Continue reading Bratwurst and Fried Potatoes

Mom’s Potato Salad

Potato salad is a very common dish in Germany as well. Once in a while, people like to prepare and eat a nice potato salad. I visited my mother during Christmas and at New Year’s Eve and in both cases she prepared potato salad with Bockwurst (a sausage variant). Every family prepares the potato salad in different ways but if you ask a person where you can get the best potato salad, he or she will most likely reply “If you visit my mother and or my grandma”. Grünkohl

In winter it’s basically a winter custom here in Northern Germany to eat Grünkohl (kale or leaf cabbage). It might have something to do with the fact that kale is harvested after the first autumn frost, which means you get it during the cold seasons on the table. Grandma invited me yesterday because she prepared Grünkohl, Kassler (smoked pork chop) and Kohlwurst (cooked sausage). Together we just call it Grünkohlessen (eating kale). That’s the usual combination and of course you eat it with cooked potatoes or fried potatoes. The good thing is, you can eat it on the second day … Continue reading Grünkohl

Photo Shooting, Shopping And Tasty Bockwürstchen

I met my mother today because we wanted to go shopping together in a big shopping center. I shot some very cool portraits of my mother on the way to the malls, and even inside the shopping center because Christmas trees or any Christmas lights make a nice bokeh portrait background. We definitely had fun, although my mother is a bit shy because strangers were curious and looked, but I told her “You will get used to it”. As a German, I can tell you, taking photos or posing for a portrait is definitely not normal in Germany. For the … Continue reading Photo Shooting, Shopping And Tasty Bockwürstchen

Barbecue Time

Yesterday we decided to have a barbecue in the evening. We drove to our garden, the weather was mixed with rain and sun. Pretty crazy and choppy, it changed every 20 minutes from sunny day to rainy, really crazy. But we have a roofed area and a garden house anyway so that the rain didn’t stop us to start the barbecue. We didn’t prepare our own salad, this time we did buy some of these ready-made salads in a store. However, they were not bad either. We had potato salad, but we also had a salad called “Party Salad”, that … Continue reading Barbecue Time
