Experimental Swan Photo

I like swan photos and above you can see one that I a while ago. However, there was so much wrong with the original image that I tried to fix all the issues. The image is heavily edited and I think the result is interesting. The main problem was that I had difficulties to make adjustments, because either the swan looked great or the water, but not both together. It was difficult to make everything look great together and I started to think that I have to make individual changes. Lazy as I am, I made initial changes to the … Continue reading Experimental Swan Photo

Great Spotted Woodpecker On The Tree

With this post I want to show you a great spotted woodpecker. I shot the photo during my time in Reinfeld and here is another photo that I shot in Lübeck. I’d say it’s not the easiest bird to photograph, because first of all you need to find one and apart from that, if you find one you will most likely have to point your camera to the treetop. I still have some other photos in my library but in almost all cases there are distracting branches in the photo due to the fact that you find them on top … Continue reading Great Spotted Woodpecker On The Tree

Common Blackbird Picture

I did already upload several common blackbird photos to my blog, but here is another one. I really didn’t like the highlights in the background, which is why I partly reduced vibrance and highlights. I did also decrease saturation of the blue colour to make the heaven highlights in the background even less apparent. Then I used the adjustment brush to reduce the contrast, exposure and saturation on the tree branch to shift the focus away from it. For the bird I used another adjustment brush to brighten the plumage and to show a little bit of detail. As I … Continue reading Common Blackbird Picture

Eurasian Magpie

Here is a photo that I shot during my time in Reinfeld. You can see an Eurasian magpie (Pica pica), also known as common magpie according to Wikipedia. I shot the bird through the window glass, as I was standing in the living room. We tricked the bird a little bit, because my uncle and me were aware of the magpie nests on the other street side, and we had this glorious idea to throw some pieces of toast bread on the car port roof. This worked well, because we went back inside and I did set up my camera … Continue reading Eurasian Magpie

Great Black Cormorant

Here is a photo that I shot yesterday on my hike through the Schellbruch Area. It’s a great black cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) also known as great cormorant, black cormorant, large cormorant and black shag. It’s quite easy to find them here in and around Lübeck close to the Baltic Sea. I found them in and around several towns and villages in our federal state Schleswig-Holstein. If there is water, there is a good chance you will find cormorants. They like to be close to the sea, or you find them at rivers or even at the ponds in the city. … Continue reading Great Black Cormorant

African Sacred Ibis In Germany

Above you can see a photo of a bird that I found during my hike through the Schellbruch Area in Lübeck. I saw five of them and some other hikers asked me if I would know what kind of bird it would be, when they saw me with my camera. And to be honest, I had absolutely no idea, and even at home the bird gave me headache because it was super hard to research the bird name, but I do now know what kind of bird it is. The problem however was that this is not a native bird … Continue reading African Sacred Ibis In Germany
