300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

I still have a macro lens on my wish list but it’s such a specialized area that I wasn’t really convinced yet to spend money on it. I will definitely do it at some point, just not now even if I could afford it, because I have other interests that cost money too. But when I got my Tamron 70-300m tele lens back then, I noticed very early that you can’t only use it as a tele lens. I realized soon, and I believe it was when I took photos of flowers with it, that you basically can shoot photos … Continue reading 300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

Common Blackbird Close-Up

Here is a photo of a common blackbird again. I could get quite close with my Tamron 70-300mm lens, but I cropped the image to get even closer. The image quality didn’t suffer too much, I like how it turned out. It’s interesting, because you would think they always look the same, and they basically do, but since I shot many photos of common blackbirds, I start to notice differences. Yeah, they are black, but the body shape is often very different, or the feather tone can vary or the length of the beak for example. The bird in the … Continue reading Common Blackbird Close-Up

Adult Black-Headed Gull In Winter Plumage

Above you can see a picture that I shot weeks ago, it’s a gull. I used my 70-300mm Tamron lens and cropped the picture even further because I wanted people to pay attention to the head, mainly because I like the beautiful red/black beak. Apart from that, I generally like close-up shots because that allows us to see some details. It’s very easy to say that this bird is a gull, but if you are interested to find out what kind of gull it is, the identification can be tricky for beginning bird photographers. The thing is, black-headed gulls can … Continue reading Adult Black-Headed Gull In Winter Plumage

Chicken Close-Up

I mentioned already a few times that my mother and her husband hold several chickens in their garden. I like the chickens a lot, they are really funny and they have their own big lawn where they will follow you everywhere if they trust you. That’s not only funny and cute, they do also make great photo subjects. I usually photographed them fully but this time I tried to take a close-up photo. I hope you like the picture. Weekly Photo Challenge: Details

I didn’t take a lot of new photos over the recent weeks, mainly because I was busy with other things, just recently I had to repair my PC for example. Also the weather is not really good in Northern Germany to have fun outside, it’s most of the time cloudy and rainy. This year is a bit strange, the spring felt like summer, and the summer is more like autumn here in the north. This weekend I saw the WordPress Photo Challenge with the motto “Details”, and I still can participate as I have way too many photos waiting to … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Details

About Kit Lenses And A Swan Close-Up Photo

I found this swan photo while I browsed through my Lightroom catalog. I shot the photo by the end of the last year when I only owned the Nikon 18-105mmm kit lens and when I was starting out with DSLR photography. The photo was taken at 105mm but the swan was close to the waterside. I like this close-up shot, I just cropped the image slightly and sharpened the image a bit. Even if it’s not my only lens anymore, I won’t forget how the Nikon 18-105mm helped me to learn about my camera and what focal lengths actually mean … Continue reading About Kit Lenses And A Swan Close-Up Photo
