Your Previous Work Is Still Interesting

As soon as I got my first DSLR, I forgot about all the photos that I took with my smartphone or with the point and shoot camera. This is sad, and I got the idea to upload some of these older pictures from time to time (the flower photo in this post is a good start). While a DSLR gives us of course higher resolution and other good specs, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the photos are much better, you can also take great photos with lower end gear, because it’s not only about camera specs, it’s about the moments, … Continue reading Your Previous Work Is Still Interesting

Experimental Moon Photo

It’s nighttime and the night sky is cloud-free, the moon visible, and I thought I try to take a picture. I did set up my tripod, the D7100 and my Tamron 70-300mm lens. I activated the 1.3 crop mode of my D7100, then I disabled the vibration reduction mode of the lens as I wanted to use my tripod anyway. Apart from that, I enabled RAW and JPG fine, to see if I can get a little bit more quality out of the RAW file. I did set the camera manually to ISO 100, f/10 and 1/200 of a second. … Continue reading Experimental Moon Photo

Close-Up Plant Photo

Here is a plant photo that I shot by the end of summer in a local school garden. The original photo was really bad, with extreme highlights, but then I noticed that the plant was not too much overexposed, only the rest of the image. I cropped the plant out, got closer on that way, and decreased the exposure a little bit for correction. Even that close, I was happy to see that the plant was just a little blurry, and that I could fix this with sharpening and a little amount of clarity. I like the result, except that … Continue reading Close-Up Plant Photo

A Hoverfly On A Beautiful Flower

Above you see a photo that I shot in a botanic garden that I found during my hike two days ago. When I was there, I thought I would have seen a lot of bees, but at home I noticed in the photo above that it’s probably rather a hoverfly or a so-called dronefly, not a bee. I think it must be a hoverfly due to the big eyes and the black abdomen. I found an article about the Eristalis hoverfly on Wiki, I think it could be the same. I hope you like the photo. Make Impossible Things Possible. Get Far Away Photo Subjects Closer Without Owning A Tele Lens.

Who doesn’t like the moon? I always wanted to take pictures of the moon. I think it would be very well possible with a nice tele lens and my D7100, but since I still only have my 18-105mm Nikon kit lens, it’s hard to do that. However, I tried it anyway and the photo above is the result, but to be honest, I had to edit the photo because here is how far away I would be otherwise… I first wanted to delete the image as I thought “Damn, that is not really interesting, I am so far away”, but … Continue reading Make Impossible Things Possible. Weekly Photo Challenge Close-Up: Thriving Flower

The recent WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge came last friday with the theme “Close-Up”. That is interesting, because the image I used in this post would have fit nicely to the theme, but I used it right before. Anyway, I have no problem to find another one. We don’t have the best weather right now, it’s raining since some days, that means I had to dig in my folders to find an appropriate image for the challenge, one photo that I shot before the rain. To be honest, most of the time my photos are uploaded delayed anyway. So, I decided … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge Close-Up: Thriving Flower
