Portrait of a Figure

I saw this figure in front of a Chinese restaurant and decided to take a photo because I did take different photos of figures in the past. While the colored original was fine, I liked it a lot more in black and white. This was shot with my 50mm lens and I think it’s a great portrait lens too. I actually shoot most of my family or friends portraits with that lens too. Continue reading Portrait of a Figure

Dragon Figure

Sometimes I also try to find things at home that I can photograph. I own the dragon figure in the picture above since almost two decades, I got that thing in a shop that basically sold cheap “bells and whistles” or “Schnickschnack” as we would say in Germany when we talk about stores that sell decor and other things for a buck or two. And I don’t mean this on a negative way, you can find some cool things in these dollar stores. The name is maybe a bit wrong in our case since we don’t trade with dollars, but … Continue reading Dragon Figure

Sailor Figure

Above is a portrait that I shot of a figure that seems to present a sailor. These or similar figures are not very uncommon here at the Baltic Sea in Northern Germany. Especially near the beaches, you can often find similar figures in front of restaurants, and some are memorials at hidden places. I can’t recall if there was a story related to the figure in my picture, because sometimes there are small signs that tell you what the figure is about. But I think the sailor in my picture was just decoration in front of a restaurant near the … Continue reading Sailor Figure

Weekly Photo Challenge: Repurpose

For the recent WordPress Photo Challenge with the motto “Repurpose”, I have chosen a photo from my library that I shot in Reinfeld. If you walk around the pond that is called Herrenteich, you will enjoy the nature but at some point you reach the town and there is no way that you will miss the sculpture that you see in my picture. The first time I walked around the pond I thought “Wait, isn’t this a sculpture of the character Scrat from the movie Ice Age?” and I laughed. I researched and there is a person that locally supports … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Repurpose

King Thrushbeard

As mentioned in my previous post, I visited the inner-district of Lübeck today. Mainly because our Christmas market opened this week, and I thought I could find some cool photo subjects because there are so many Christmas stands. They have one area that we call the ‘Märchenwald’, literally translated it means ‘Fairytale forest’. They set this area up every year when the Christmas market starts again. They basically show off scenes with figures of traditional fairytales. It’s an area that both, adults and kids enjoy equally. Fun fact, the ‘Märchenwald’ exists as long as I can think, that means my … Continue reading King Thrushbeard
