Above is a portrait that I shot of a figure that seems to present a sailor. These or similar figures are not very uncommon here at the Baltic Sea in Northern Germany. Especially near the beaches, you can often find similar figures in front of restaurants, and some are memorials at hidden places. I can’t recall if there was a story related to the figure in my picture, because sometimes there are small signs that tell you what the figure is about. But I think the sailor in my picture was just decoration in front of a restaurant near the beach if I remember right. If I would have one of these figures at home, I would probably use it to practice portrait photography (laugh). That is the same reason why I took a photo when I found this sailor on my way, and I do also think the figure looks interesting. The colored photo was nice, but I applied black and white because it somehow emphasised the figure very well.
[ Smiles ] The sailor figure looks fantastic in black and white!
I tried different black and white styles, but in all cases it looked great and the decision was quite difficult. It really works with the figure 🙂
He is quite lifelike. What is he made of?
I am not sure about that. I have difficulties to guess because I didn’t touch the figure. Maybe I see that one again when the weather becomes better and when I hike at that place 🙂 You’re right, quite lifelike, and I remember it was also in human size.
