Chain

Today I visited my mother and her husband in the garden. And of course, I had my 40mm lens with me. I saw this chain on a workbench and since I like metal things, I took a photo. I really love this lens a lot, because it makes me shoot very different photos compared to what I’ve done previously. I can now take close-up photos of things again, that was something I liked to do with my point-and-shoot camere back then, or with my phones where minimum focus distance has not been a huge issue. And it isn’t with the … Continue reading Chain

Rusty Texture

Above is a photo that I also shot with a cheapo point-and-shoot camera. The camera I used at that time was a Medion Life P43040, which you can see here. The camera had a macro mode, although I personally think it didn’t have a lot to do with macro photography except that you could take close-up photos. With that mode I really got fascinated with close-up photos of flowers but also textures. I really loved textures, especially rusty stuff like in the image above. What I like about rusty metal that makes paint burst, is that it looks pretty abstract … Continue reading Rusty Texture

300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

I still have a macro lens on my wish list but it’s such a specialized area that I wasn’t really convinced yet to spend money on it. I will definitely do it at some point, just not now even if I could afford it, because I have other interests that cost money too. But when I got my Tamron 70-300m tele lens back then, I noticed very early that you can’t only use it as a tele lens. I realized soon, and I believe it was when I took photos of flowers with it, that you basically can shoot photos … Continue reading 300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

Black And White Metal Texture

Sometimes I do also take photos of textures. I do especially like metal surfaces that are rusty, or rust in general. I like these textures in color, but recently I started to experiment more with black and white effects, usually when the colours in the photos look dull or if there are other issues. That was the case with the photo above, the colours were not really prominent or special, but the surface texture got more defined when I applied a black and white and a bit more clarity. I think I didn’t often upload texture photos, maybe I should … Continue reading Black And White Metal Texture

Weekly Photo Challenge: Repurpose

For the recent WordPress Photo Challenge with the motto “Repurpose”, I have chosen a photo from my library that I shot in Reinfeld. If you walk around the pond that is called Herrenteich, you will enjoy the nature but at some point you reach the town and there is no way that you will miss the sculpture that you see in my picture. The first time I walked around the pond I thought “Wait, isn’t this a sculpture of the character Scrat from the movie Ice Age?” and I laughed. I researched and there is a person that locally supports … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Repurpose

Weekly Photo Challenge: Door

The recent WordPress Photo Challenge is funny, no really, I like it. I enjoy taking pictures of objects. There are so many objects that most people would find boring, I did that too, but I pay more attention to these objects since I am interested in photography. This weeks challenge is about doors, and they are probably one of these subjects where most people would ask “Why did you take a picture of a door?”, I would have asked the same question too a while ago, but now I don’t, because they are interesting. The fun about photography is to … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Door
