Weekly Photo Challenge: Tiny

The recent WordPress Photo Challenge is about tiny things. I thought that I use the challenge to show you a butterfly photo that I shot a while ago. I would really like to try this with a real macro lens, but for now I usually had to use my Nikon 18-105mm lens or my Tamron 70-300mm. In this case I shot the photo at 300mm with my tele zoom lens. I’d call that pseudo macro photography. Fun fact, I could basically afford a true 90mm or 100mm macro lens next month, I am just not sure if I should do … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Tiny

Bumblebee Worker

Here is a photo that I shot last May during a hike through the nature around Reinfeld. I didn’t do a lot of insect photography since I purchased my first DSLR camera. It’s mainly because I don’t own a macro lens, but in some cases it’s also possible to take insect photos with my Tamron 70-300mm lens or with my Nikon 18-105 lens. I did for example write down my experience about how you can get decent insect photos with the Nikon 18-105mm lens, but this just as a sidenote. For the photo in this post, I used my Tamron … Continue reading Bumblebee Worker

Weekly Photo Challenge: Details

I didn’t take a lot of new photos over the recent weeks, mainly because I was busy with other things, just recently I had to repair my PC for example. Also the weather is not really good in Northern Germany to have fun outside, it’s most of the time cloudy and rainy. This year is a bit strange, the spring felt like summer, and the summer is more like autumn here in the north. This weekend I saw the WordPress Photo Challenge with the motto “Details”, and I still can participate as I have way too many photos waiting to … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Details

A Hoverfly On A Beautiful Flower

Above you see a photo that I shot in a botanic garden that I found during my hike two days ago. When I was there, I thought I would have seen a lot of bees, but at home I noticed in the photo above that it’s probably rather a hoverfly or a so-called dronefly, not a bee. I think it must be a hoverfly due to the big eyes and the black abdomen. I found an article about the Eristalis hoverfly on Wiki, I think it could be the same. I hope you like the photo. Bumblebee At Work

It’s not a long time ago when I uploaded a photo of a bumblebee, but we have plenty of flowers in the garden and therefore also enough bumblebees and other insects.  I like to watch them, I also like to take photos of them. The Nikon 18-105mm lens is not really made for macro photography, but the more I use the lens, the more I get at least some kind of close-up shots, not exactly macro shots but still interesting photos I think.
