Me and my friends are Arma Fans and theirfor we really wait for the military simulation Arma 3. I mentioned that the release date of Arma 3 will be delayed. But yesterday we really had a controversy on our Teamspeak Server. You know, one of those “I hate, I like” Steam controversys. Trigger has been the latest news that Armed Assault 3 will be Steam exclusive. For me it is not really a problem since I own already many games on Steam. However, I do understand people who wont get forced into this digital distribution system called Steam.
This is the first time Bohemia Interactive goes that route to not distribute different versions of their game and the Arma 3 project lead Joris-Jan van ‘t Land said without Steam, the team wouldn’t be able to release the game in 2013 at all. He said “We needed to spend far too much time on creating and testing all the master copies. Every patch had to be tested for every conceivable combination of distribution, patch and DLC. This drained so many of our resources, that we could not support the game itself as much as we’d have liked. By targeting Steam as our primary distribution, we can take those resources and put them to much better use: making the most splendid game possible.”
PC Gamer wrote that he also mentioned pirarcy as a reason “Think of it what you want, but piracy is affecting us as a business.” with the note “It will be possible to run Steam in Offline mode, and still play the game (with the exception of online services obviously, including multiplayer itself).”
So, looks like the decision is made, that is for sure.
