Northern German Cuisine: Grünkohl

At the top, you see a photo of a very classical and traditional Northern German dish. It’s kale with fried potatoes, smoked pork chop, and smoked sausage. I’d argue if you ever been to Northern Germany during the cold days but didn’t eat “Grünkohl” (kale) as we call it, you absolutely didn’t experience Northern Germany. But as said, it’s a dish you’re more likely to find during the autumn and winter months here, that’s what we call “Grünkohlsaison” (kale season). That’s because back in the days if you wanted fresh kale, you got it from autumn to March. Temperatures down … Continue reading Northern German Cuisine: Grünkohl

Cyclist

Here is a random photo of a person doing his fitness regime on a bike. I saw many cyclists during my time in Reinfeld. No wonder, it’s a nice place with beautiful nature and great for many outdoor activities. As I mentioned in the past, it’s a bit difficult to do people photography in Germany but sometimes I take people’s photos anyway, mostly in a way that I don’t invade their privacy. That does mean I don’t take photos of their faces unless they give me permission. Exceptions are also if I photograph public places and people are in the … Continue reading Cyclist

Black Rock Smartphone Book Cover

As I mentioned in a previous post, I got a Huawei P20 Lite smartphone. I asked the store for a full cover protective glass and was pretty happy when they attached it because it isn’t visible at all. But I also wanted a book cover or flip case. I’m a purist or minimalist and don’t like it if things are too fancy. I prefer single-colored and simple designs and I found a cover that I like. In the post about the smartphone I mentioned that I might share a photo of the case too. So, here it is… Continue reading Black Rock Smartphone Book Cover

After 2511 Days It Was Time To Get A New Phone

I am not exactly the type of customer that can be reached easily by mobile phone manufacturers. I don’t have very high standards when it’s about phones. What I need is a device which allows me to receive and do phone calls. Apart from that, it’s fun if the phone can show me notifications, run a few apps or if I can take a few snapshots with it. You guessed it, any smartphone will do. And my last phone did it for a very long time. I also check the look of the phone, but once I got one, I … Continue reading After 2511 Days It Was Time To Get A New Phone

Brexit Coin

A week ago I got a Euro coin back as change money and didn’t notice it right away, but at home I had to laugh when I realized someone attempted to stamp out the United Kingdom from the coin. So, I took my 40mm macro lens and shot a photo. The person had a funny idea but I don’t think that it was correctly executed as Ireland is stamped out as well and not just the United Kingdom. It could also be that it is coincidence, that the Euro coin was not damaged on purpose. But anyhow, it looks to … Continue reading Brexit Coin

Running Progress August 2019

As you guys know, I am documenting my jogging progress since I began to run. A month ago I was documenting how I managed to do a non-stop 4 km run. The previous year I managed it to do 5 km but I never could run further than that. But guess what happened today? I ran 6.2 km without a single break. It was a non-stop run and I am super excited about it. It’s a huge milestone because it means now I could basically participate in a 5k run as I broke through 5 km several times and now … Continue reading Running Progress August 2019
