Give Me Five Cat

My cat Shyna knows quite a lot of tricks. When I shot the photo above, I said “Give me five” but in German. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she can do it if I say it in English. I say that because I taught her a lot of tricks and I noticed that she doesn’t only listen to me, it is also that she looks what my hands are doing. A flat horizontal hand for example does mean “Give me your paw”, while a vertical hand does mean “Give me five”. It works both ways, I can either use … Continue reading Give Me Five Cat

Weekly Photo Challenge: Bridge

The current WordPress Photo Challenge comes with the topic bridge. It’s funny, I really can’t tell you how much bridge photos I shot, I am not even sure why I do that, but I can tell you that I have tons of bridge photos. I don’t know, sometimes I like the textures of the cement or wood, or the graffiti work that makes materials look very urban. There must be some kind of reason why I take these photos, maybe it’s just that we have too much bridges here (laugh). Joke aside, yeah I think it’s about the structure, the … Continue reading Weekly Photo Challenge: Bridge

Black And White Metal Texture

Sometimes I do also take photos of textures. I do especially like metal surfaces that are rusty, or rust in general. I like these textures in color, but recently I started to experiment more with black and white effects, usually when the colours in the photos look dull or if there are other issues. That was the case with the photo above, the colours were not really prominent or special, but the surface texture got more defined when I applied a black and white and a bit more clarity. I think I didn’t often upload texture photos, maybe I should … Continue reading Black And White Metal Texture

Black And White Landscape Photo

Above you can see a photo that I shot outside of Lübeck, to be more exact around Bad Schwartau. I liked the landscape, the tree, the field and the little hunting outpost that is visible. However, the resulting photo was bad because there was too much haze in the photo. A bit of haze is good but this was too much and made the image look kinda flat and I didn’t want to use a digital de-haze filter because I thought a black and white effect could look good. The idea was that it would add contrast, it would make … Continue reading Black And White Landscape Photo

Abandoned Building Near Rail Station

Here is a photo that I shot near the rail station of Lübeck. The original photo bored me and I wondered what I could do to improve the photo. It turned out that a black and white effect makes the photo look interesting. I thought this looks pretty much like one of those images that are used on old hip hop record labels. I like how this turned out. Sometimes you are just a few mouse clicks away to heavily improve a boring photo. I must say, I am generally a fan of black and white photos, but I think … Continue reading Abandoned Building Near Rail Station

Male Mallard

Here is a photo that I actually wanted to delete because the photo was extremely overexposed. But since I shot the photo in RAW format, I tried to take a look if I can improve the photo. Well, to be honest, the trick was to change the photo from colours to black and white, but I changed the shadow and highlight values before I did that, and I added contrast to the photo. I think the photo is actually not that bad anymore after the edits. You see a male mallard in the photo, and you can find even more … Continue reading Male Mallard
