Chain

Today I visited my mother and her husband in the garden. And of course, I had my 40mm lens with me. I saw this chain on a workbench and since I like metal things, I took a photo. I really love this lens a lot, because it makes me shoot very different photos compared to what I’ve done previously. I can now take close-up photos of things again, that was something I liked to do with my point-and-shoot camere back then, or with my phones where minimum focus distance has not been a huge issue. And it isn’t with the … Continue reading Chain

Wild Goose Close-Up

Here is a photo that I shot yesterday. There is a pond in one of the parks and I found wild gooses and they came pretty close. So, I managed it to take some close-up photos. I also saw fledglings that I could photograph. I will upload these photos later or another day. I also had a bit of small talk with strangers who watches the birds too. I even chatted with another photographer. Continue reading Wild Goose Close-Up

Blogging: Own Thoughts, Own Photos

Going through my photo library, I found the close-up photo you can see above. Not very special as a subject, but I like to take close-up photos. Also, do you know what a really good side effect of a photo blog is? I shot and uploaded so many photos, that I would in many cases always find a fitting photo for articles I plan to write on my blog. I actually mentioned this once in an article I called “Take Your Own Stock Images“. So, with the photo above it’s the same. If I ever write about anything related to … Continue reading Blogging: Own Thoughts, Own Photos

300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

I still have a macro lens on my wish list but it’s such a specialized area that I wasn’t really convinced yet to spend money on it. I will definitely do it at some point, just not now even if I could afford it, because I have other interests that cost money too. But when I got my Tamron 70-300m tele lens back then, I noticed very early that you can’t only use it as a tele lens. I realized soon, and I believe it was when I took photos of flowers with it, that you basically can shoot photos … Continue reading 300mm Pseudo-Macro Photo

Baby Chicken

Above is a photo that I shot in our garden last summer. The husband of my mother has chickens, and they did breed. The result was a small gang of very cute baby chickens. I shot many photos that I didn’t edit yet but the photo in this post is a nice close up shot that I took with my Tamron 70-300mm lens. I also edited the image a bit. I cropped the image, added a lens vignette effect so that your eyes are more focussed on the bird, and I played with the contrast values because the original had … Continue reading Baby Chicken

Common Blackbird Close-Up

Here is a photo of a common blackbird again. I could get quite close with my Tamron 70-300mm lens, but I cropped the image to get even closer. The image quality didn’t suffer too much, I like how it turned out. It’s interesting, because you would think they always look the same, and they basically do, but since I shot many photos of common blackbirds, I start to notice differences. Yeah, they are black, but the body shape is often very different, or the feather tone can vary or the length of the beak for example. The bird in the … Continue reading Common Blackbird Close-Up
