Mom’s Potato Salad

Potato salad is a very common dish in Germany as well. Once in a while, people like to prepare and eat a nice potato salad. I visited my mother during Christmas and at New Year’s Eve and in both cases she prepared potato salad with Bockwurst (a sausage variant). Every family prepares the potato salad in different ways but if you ask a person where you can get the best potato salad, he or she will most likely reply “If you visit my mother and or my grandma”. Northern German Cuisine: Grünkohl

At the top, you see a photo of a very classical and traditional Northern German dish. It’s kale with fried potatoes, smoked pork chop, and smoked sausage. I’d argue if you ever been to Northern Germany during the cold days but didn’t eat “Grünkohl” (kale) as we call it, you absolutely didn’t experience Northern Germany. But as said, it’s a dish you’re more likely to find during the autumn and winter months here, that’s what we call “Grünkohlsaison” (kale season). Pulled Beef

Here is a photo I shot when my uncle was still lived. One day we tried pulled beef and since then he wanted to eat it regularly at least once a week. He always looked so amazed and when I watched him eating it felt like he forgot that he had a Glioblastoma IV diagnosis. I liked these moments because it was a difficult time. So, whenever we found something that would make him happy, we did all the best to do it again. The food you see in the picture is pulled beef with potato croquettes and tzatziki. And … Continue reading Pulled Beef

Simple But Tasty

Above is also one of my favorite meals. And it’s a simple one, which doesn’t mean that it isn’t tasty. It’s potato puree with spinach and fried eggs. A fairly cheap meal. I often eat this when I want to put more bank notes into my piggy bank than planned. And I don’t feel bad about it because as said, it’s delicious. I love eggs, and I love spinach and potatoes. It makes you full and happy, and it’s nutrient-rich. Continue reading Simple But Tasty

Summer, Salad Time

In summer there is nothing that can beat a fresh salad, well, maybe ice cream can, but a salad gives you the same joy. Not that I live very healthy, I don’t really take care what I eat, but salads are simply the perfect dish for summer days. In the hot season there are often days where I can’t eat hot meals, on these days I prefer a salad or maybe some corn flakes with milk. But I really love mixed salads and I bet I wrote about this several times on my blog. Continue reading Summer, Salad Time
