Very important prologue…

Some people ask “How can I get a cat” and I thought I do write about the topic and what the possibilities are. First of all I really really suggest you to read about cats before you think about getting a cat. I say this because the animal shelter are often full of animals which were set out forsaken anywhere. I do not want to say that you would do the same but please read anyway because a cat is not only fun, a cat is also demanding. I just do mention this because it is a fact that a lot of people ask “How can I get a cat?” and some of them sadly ask later on “Who wants my cat?”. You should read first how to keep cats and what it means to be a can opener for a cat. I suggest this and assume you did read already or that you now will do it. It is very important not only for you but also for the cat. You want to be prepared right so that you never would set out your cat as well, right?

But if you did read a lot and if you know already about cats, then it is pretty great! And if you are sure you want to integrate a cat in your family life and if you are sure that you can give a good home for a long time, then nothing speaks against the idea. A cat is an enrichment for the family if you can give a good home, that´s sure.

You maybe ask questions like “What kind of cat do I want?”, “What should I buy for the cat and what do I need to give her a good life?”, “What should I know about cats behavior and will there be any surprises?”, “What about the veterinarian? Is there anything medically I should consider?”, . If you find answers to all these questions and if you could even answer more cat related questions, then you are ready to ask “How can I get a cat?”. So…

How can I get a cat?

There are several ways to find a cat which you can give a home. As said, in fact there are so many cats that it won´t even be a problem to find one. Sadly not every cat will be mediated so that I do think that every mediated cat has a lot of luck and maybe a better life than those who aren´t mediated. There is simply an over-supply.

You could for example ask friends if someone knows somebody who has some cat´s which need to be mediated so that they do not land in the animal shelter. You could also try to search through your local classifieds. They are also full of cats. Either online or offline in newspapers and so. Another way how you can get a cat would be that you visit an animal shelter to see if you find a cat there. This would be one very good or let me say the best way to get a cat because as I said, there are so many cats who would like to have a good home but sadly a lot of them have to stay in the animal shelter for a long time.

Sadly there is an oversupply of cats due to the fact that a lot of people want to breed cats to earn money. But what those people do not think about is that there are already more cats than people who could give them a home. This over-supply is really a problem because only the cats have to pay for this condition. So if you would take a cat home from the animal shelter, you would even do something good. I would take one cat out of the animal shelter and you could give the cat a better life and future. You should think about this. You will find beautiful young kitten but also older cats who wait already for a can opener for a long time. This is a place where to get a kitten but also adult cats. You really should visit them to get an impression and I am sure you will find a good friend for life there.

You also must consider that you will harm the industry of greedy and naive cat breeders because in most animal shelter you will get a cat for free or at least
for a small protective charge. You won´t give any money to the breeders who do not think about the over-supply and who just continue to breed. If you get a cat out of the animal shelter then you will help and harm this industry instead. And I would like to repeat it… the cats there are not different, there are many beautiful cats as well. The only different is that they had a bad start, they were exposed and they feel lonely and bad. If you ask “How can I get a cat?”, then you could change that. Give them a chance to find friendly can openers, a good home and a beautiful life.

As you can see, there are different ways to find a cat. But there is only one which make you feel that you did something great. Visit an animal shelter and take a look. I hope I could give you inspiration for the question “How can I get a cat?”. I hope you will find a new family member and I hope at least one cat will find a better home.
